We’re looking for a Senior Manager, Asset Allocation to join the Investment Strategy & Research (IS&R) team. IS&R is responsible for developing investment strategy and research material for use by advisers and clients, helping deliver high-quality investment outcomes and insights.
In this senior role, you’ll lead JBWere’s investment approach to asset allocation and portfolio construction, ensuring robust risk management practices and a disciplined investment process. You’ll be responsible for reference model portfolio asset allocations, risk budgeting, scenario analysis, and providing expertise across asset classes, including alternatives, tactical tilts and currency hedging.
Working closely with the Head of Investment Strategy & Research, you’ll help shape and communicate a clear investment view across the business. You’ll also play an important role in adviser education, client presentations, workshops and other initiatives that support business growth and deepen client engagement.
This is an opportunity for an experienced investment professional who enjoys combining deep technical expertise with leadership, stakeholder engagement and strategic thinking. You'll contribute to the ongoing evolution of investment governance, research processes and decision-making frameworks while mentoring others and championing continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities | Ngā Kawenga Mahi
Develop and maintain market valuation models, expected return frameworks, risk models and financial forecasting tools using internal research, external research and market data sources.
Manage, analyse and communicate portfolio return attribution across asset classes.
Monitor risk and return characteristics across model portfolios, including risk budgeting and scenario analysis.
Support monitoring and commentary on macroeconomic developments and investment market trends.
Maintain and enhance portfolio modelling and rebalancing tools used by advisers.
Provide leadership and mentoring across the IS&R team, supporting capability development and the consistent application of research, portfolio construction and communication standards.
Contribute to the strategic direction of the team by identifying opportunities to improve adviser engagement, prioritisation, operating rhythms and delivery of investment insights.
Strengthen governance and investment decision-making through clear documentation, robust challenge, repeatable frameworks and well-supported recommendations.
Champion the use of new technologies, analytical methods, data sources and workflow improvements that enhance team effectiveness and investment outcomes.
Collaborate with advisers, internal stakeholders and Australian counterparts to share insights, investment views and knowledge across the wider network.
Desired Skills and Experience

Strong quantitative and analytical capability, with confidence using data to support investment decision-making.
Deep interest in and understanding of financial markets and investing.
Experience using, or willingness to develop expertise in, market data platforms such as Reuters, Eikon and Bloomberg.
Significant experience in a senior portfolio management, asset allocation or investment strategy role.
A Commerce degree or other relevant tertiary qualification.
The ability to communicate complex investment concepts clearly and effectively to a range of audiences.
Strong relationship-building skills and the ability to develop trusted networks both within and outside the organisation.
A collaborative working style combined with initiative and sound judgement.
Demonstrated leadership capability, including mentoring others, influencing stakeholders and contributing positively to team performance.
A growth mindset and commitment to continuous improvement, including embracing new technologies, tools and ways of working.
