We are looking for a detail-focused and analytical Tax Analyst to join our CFO Department and support the delivery of tax compliance, reporting and governance obligations across FirstCape. This role can be Auckland or Wellington based.
Reporting to the Tax Manager and working closely with the Head of Tax, you’ll help prepare tax calculations, reconciliations, returns, workpapers and supporting analysis across a complex financial services group encompassing wealth advisory, asset management, custody and platform operations. You’ll maintain clear documentation and audit trails, help evidence tax controls, and contribute to the consistent application of tax policies and procedures across FirstCape.
This is an opportunity to build your technical tax expertise in a complex and regulated environment while contributing to tax governance initiatives, process improvements and broader Finance and Business Unit activities.
Key Responsibilities | Ngā Kawenga Mahi
Tax compliance support
Assist with the preparation and submission of tax returns and related filings, including provisional tax, income tax, GST and FBT returns, imputation credit account calculations and withholding tax obligations.
Gather, analyse and validate the financial and operational data required for tax compliance.
Prepare and maintain accurate, well-organised tax reconciliations, workpapers and supporting documentation for Group tax filings.
Help maintain the tax compliance calendar and support the timely completion of filing and payment obligations.
Assist with information requests and queries from the wider Finance team, Business Units, external advisers, auditors and tax authorities.
Technical and advisory support
Research and analyse tax legislation, Inland Revenue guidance and relevant industry developments.
Prepare supporting analysis for technical papers, advisory matters and tax projects.
Assist with implementing approved tax positions within Finance and Business Unit processes.
Provide tax support for transactions, governance activities and business improvement projects as required.
Continue developing your technical tax knowledge and awareness of relevant legislation, Inland Revenue guidance and industry developments.
Tax controls, data and governance
Maintain high-quality documentation, workpapers and audit trails supporting tax calculations, positions and compliance outcomes.
Help ensure the accuracy and integrity of data used in tax calculations and reporting.
Support the operation and continuous improvement of established tax processes, policies, controls and governance frameworks.
Identify and promptly escalate discrepancies, errors or risks to the Tax Manager.
Understand and follow the policies and procedures relevant to the role, while putting clients’ needs first and treating clients fairly and with integrity.

A CA ANZ qualification, or an equivalent professional qualification, that is completed, in progress or intended.
Two to five years’ experience in tax, accounting or finance, ideally within professional services or financial services.
Developing knowledge of New Zealand income tax, GST and withholding tax regimes.
Strong Excel and data-handling skills.
The ability to follow established processes and maintain accurate documentation.
Exposure to financial services, funds management or wealth management environments, and familiarity with Microsoft Dynamics 365, would be advantageous but are not essential.
