We’re looking for a Junior Software Engineer to join our Architecture & Engineering team within Digital.
The team is at the forefront of FirstCape’s digital transformation, building the future of the digital services used throughout our organisation. You’ll help build and maintain flexible, scalable and innovative solutions for wealth and asset management, while developing your skills alongside engineers, product designers and product owners.
This is an opportunity for an early-career engineer who enjoys learning, collaborating with others and taking ownership of their work. You’ll contribute to the platforms, services and tooling that support great experiences for our clients and our people.
Key Responsibilities | Ngā Kawenga Mahi
- Support and evolve our platforms, services and tooling to help create the best possible experience for clients and staff.
- Collaborate closely with engineers, product designers and product owners to support the ongoing evolution of our products.
- Build and contribute to flexible, scalable and innovative digital solutions for wealth and asset management.
- Take operational responsibility for the software components you develop.
- Follow the policies and procedures relevant to the role, helping to maintain a safe and responsible working environment.
- Put the needs of clients first and treat clients fairly and with integrity.
What you will bring to the role | He aha ka kawea e koe ki te mahi
You’ll bring curiosity, a willingness to learn and an interest in building useful, reliable digital products. This role will suit a recent graduate or equivalent, looking to develop in a 12-month fixed term contract.
We’re looking for:
- Familiarity with modern front-end web development.
- Familiarity with building database-backed REST or GraphQL services in open-source environments.
- An understanding of testing, debugging and automation techniques.
- An interest in agentic engineering, open-source technologies, agile ways of working, domain-driven design and infrastructure as code.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- The ability to learn quickly and pick up new concepts.
- An enjoyment of working closely with a team to deliver value for stakeholders.
- A desire to understand the bigger picture and take ownership of your work.
- An understanding of, or general interest in, capital markets.
- A degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering, or an equivalent tertiary qualification.
