About the opportunity | Mo te whai waahi

We are currently seeking a Senior Financial Accountant to manage the monthly and annual financial accounting and statutory financial reporting for FirstCape and its subsidiaries. The role is responsible for owning financial accounting, consolidation and audit processes, and is a key decision maker with regard to technical accounting judgements, interpretation of IFRS and financial reporting within Finance.  

Key Responsibilities | Ngā Kawenga Mahi

  • Taking ownership for preparation of FirstCape Group financial statements and subsidiaries.
  • Review of fund financial statements prepared by third parties.
  • Monthly consolidation of the Group and related elimination journals.
  • General oversight of intercompany balances and settlements.
  • Ownership of monthly balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Ownership of IFRS 16 Lease accounting balances, intangible assets and equity balances.
  • Preparations of monthly tax processes with oversight from the Head of Tax.
  • Prepare regulatory returns such as Capital Adequacy reporting and NTA reporting for NZX and FMA.
  • Preparation of technical accounting, management or Board papers as necessary.
  • Key contact for external auditors on financial statements and the controls environment.
  • Responding to ad hoc requests from the business as they relate to areas of responsibility.

  • Self-driven & results oriented individual.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Consistently proactive in approach to identifying and reacting to issues when they arise.
  • Excellent knowledge of NZ IFRS and GAAP.
  • Strong understanding of financial statements, including consolidation accounting and cashflows
  • Qualified CA (or equivalent), preferably with at least 5 years post qualified commercial and/or audit experience.
